The mobile home I live in has no heat or AC, so I thought this would be a good way to supply both.Though it was very heavy and hard to move, unless you are on a hard floor where the casters can work, I managed to get it all hooked up.Things went well for the first couple of weeks and then I don't know what happened, but every morning that I use it I find that the little tray that sits underneath the unit and catches the water, when you open the drain plug, is filled to overflowing and I must empty it and wipe up the floor around it.This happens whether I have the little rubber plug they supplied pushed into the hole or I have the screw on plug put on as it seems to leak from underneath the unit itself.I am very happy that I was sort of forced into putting it in a room that had a vinyl floor!
I have tried emptying the accumulated water before retiring and leaving it unemptied - neither works.I called Soleus and was put on hold - they said I was 9th in line and would be on hold for about 11 minutes; about 40 minutes later a man came on to tell me that they would call me back; that was a week ago!I turned the unit over to see if I could gain access to the inside and see what was up, but that didn't work either.
I hesitate to return it as I was barely able to get it from my porch to where I wanted it and I know I couldn't get it into a vehicle to send it back; not to mention that the packaging is gone and that it cost me $60.00 to have it sent and would be near that to return it.I guess I have resigned myself to cleaning up after it each morning.

I have had one of these great little heaters for two years now. I couldn't tell you how many times I have been thankful of my wife for buying me one.I have a 20'X20' shed out side that I use for crafts that my wife won't let me do inside. Untill I recieved this one I used to buy a new electric heater every season in the colder months just to stay warm while I tinkered around. The only drawback to it is that it will not heat you,or a room up immediately (it usually takes some 10-20 minutes)But it will keep the room warm easily and will not burn out quickly or cause a spark like the little glowing fan heaters. All in due case it is good for what I do.

We have the fan mounted on a 36" drop pole and it looks great.Instead of using the 40w bulbs that came with it, we installed the mini base fluorescent lights and it puts out a lot of light.It was easy to assemble and install and is very quiet when running.

This is a fantastic switch, with minor exceptions. It's functional, and you can easily setup wired remotes that communicate with the main switch. Setting speed on one sets the others, etc. However, the patent pending "return to neutral" feature had some problems in my units - the paddle sticks.
This isn't an original feature anyways, Smarthome Insteon products have had it for years. In any case, the problem I had was that the tolerance between the paddle and the plastic around was too tight, especially when installed in a coverplate (which pinches a little bit). A few minutes of sanding on the sides and bottom fixed the problem (600 grit, wet, you could also use 400). Now the switches are snappy and look great. Without this issue they would be 5 star in my book.

When I installed a few sets of these Visia dimmer switches in my home I thought I could get by with using one master dimmer in the main locations and just the matching remote "switches" for the remote locations (to save a few dollars).Well, within a short time I started wishing I was able to not just switch, but dim the lights from the remote locaitons as well, so I upgraded to these full dimming matching remotes.I am very happy now being able to control the light levels from all locations.

The form and function of all the Vizia switches are great.They look wonderful and work flawlessly.The only thing to keep in mind with these and other electronic dimmers is that these dimmers will cause the filiments in some brands of incandescent lights to audibly hum at times.The solution is to buy the right brands of bulbs.Philips and Sylvania bulbs have worked fine in our home with these Vizia switches as well asX10 switches.

My only complaint with any of these types of switches are the prices.With electronics getting cheaper and cheaper these days, and considering the minimal amount of circuitry contained within these switches, these things should be a lot less expensive than they are.

Great invention.Really works well.The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes if it's not fully charged, the third LED light won't be as bright as the others.Other than that, it's a perfect addition especially if you live in an area where the power goes out often, have a pet who doesn't like the dark, or have children who get up to use the bathroom in the night.Much easier to pull this off the wall than to search around in the dark for a flashlight or rely on a stationary night light to do the job.

Very quiet, very effective fan.The 42 W fluorescent light bulb puts out plenty of light, but the plastic lens is so thick and opaque that the light never gets out!I have taken to using mine with no lens--unattractive, but at least I can see in the shower.If NuTone did something about the lens, this would be a great product.

Contractor selected this for a previously unventilated and small 10x13 bathroom that had been mildew central. The fan is unbelievably quiet and powerful (draws air/odors from other parts of house) which is terrific; however, that is canceled out by a few other issues:

1. The motion sensor is too sensitive with no way of adjusting it; therefore, if you walk past the open bathroom door the fan goes on.
2. That kind of cancels out the auto-shutoff mode. We have discovered the fan running 2-3 hours after a shower/bathroom use for who knows what reason -- tree movement outside the window? cat walking past the bathroom door?
3. The lighting on this unit is unbelievably strong; an 18W, 4100K light is *bright white* and incredibly harsh. It looks like lighting in a surgical theater -- shows up every wrinkle, hair, enlarged pore, etc -- and worse still it is nearly impossible to find less intense bulbs that fit the fixture unless you scour the Internet. Neither Lowe's nor Home Depot carry anything that will fit this baby.

I would avoid this fan for small bathrooms/home use. This might do well in a several-stall public bathroom but nothing about it confers a homey, comfortable touch to our room.

This rod came in stainless steel with no cover on it to match the ceiling fan.I am very disappointed that it is a stainless steel rod instead of a decorative one.Very misleading.I got this because my other accents are bronzed or gold, and I don't need a silver looking rod.

Purchased 6 months ago as a bedroom fan it is the only fan I am able to get a full nights sleep with. I use it on the slowest setting and when stationary any sound it makes is almost imperceptable. When ocillating it is not annoying, but can be heard as it reaches the left and right sweeping limits. Perfect for an office and as good as it gets for a bedroom. I'm certian you will agree. We have purchased a large quantity of these fans for use at mountain-top communications sites that can get pretty chilly in the winter months.Over the years, these have proven to be very robust, dependable heaters.They are also great camping heaters in that, on the LOW setting, the fan does not kick on and off, or run at all.If you're a light sleeper, this allows you to sleep, while still getting plenty of radiant heat with a thermostat setting.The LOW setting is enough to keep a 24-foot trailer nice and warm inside while outside temperatures are in the 40's.The low setting is also nice since it is not drawing much current through your trailer's electrical wiring. These are sturdy heaters and I can't recommend them highly enough.

My electrician installed this fan in a bare ceiling which did not previously have a fan.We hooked the fan up to a timer - Leviton LTB60 - which allows the fan to continue running after the user has left the room.The lights for the fan and the vanity light are controlled by a stacked switch (Leviton 5634), so the timer and two switches take up only two slots.As for the fan, it is not as quiet as my $130 Panasonic fan but for a $30 fan, it's pretty good.It's a whooshing sound but not so loud that I can hear it above the sound of running water.The light bay takes a small CFL, so be sure to find one in the wattage you want before you install the fan. I chose a 60W equivalent cfl bulb and it is not very bright.My kids like the fact that it's a dimmer ceiling light and if they need more light, we still have a vanity light on a separate switch.

I bought this fan as a stylish replacement to a 1970's shiny brass fan that was in the home I just bought. However, I was horribly disappointed. First of all, the lights. The 2 60 watt bulbs are almost adequate to light a room, that is without the almost impenetrable to light cover that comes with it. With it, it looks like I am lighting my room with a couple night lights. Then, the fan. This fan on high is about equivalent to that 1970's fan on medium. It took me 1.5 hours to put this up, and I took it down 2 hours later in 30min and I will be returning to the store I purchased it at. If there had just been a review on it, I wouldn't have wasted my time or $.

PERSONAL FAN Review

The Personal Fan, price quoted for $94.92, and ever so generously marked down to $75.43, is essentially a 12V Universal Fan that unquestionably should be billed as a Do It Yourself Kit, and likely by law should be designated as such.

Photos can be deceiving and descriptions, or lack thereof, misleading.The fact of the matter is this fan is an unfinished, incomplete product, electrically speaking.

Incredibly, unconscionably and unforgivably, especially given this fan's exorbitant price tag, ($6.95 in my estimation would be a fair price for what you get) it neither comes with a built-in battery bay or a 12V transformer, which it requires in order to operate.(Note: You can buy other ready-to-go, everything-included, folding fans of comparable size and outputs on Amazon for under $20.00, and you would be well advised to do so.)

If you're still with me at this point, then know that the 12V power supply that this fan requires, must be purchased separately, but it's something that can be acquire from any Radio Shack, Ace Hardware or Wal-Mart store.

As if what I've already told you about this product wasn't bad enough, it arrives with two exposed or bare wires from within its base, with no adapter plug, which should have been attached to them, in order to accommodate the plug-in from the 12V AC Adapter that you'll need to purchase for it.(Radio Shack sells one for $17.00, Model: 273-1774, Catalog #273-1774, if you're interested.)

You'll also need to purchase said adapter plug (that will run you another $3.00) to accommodate the plug-in from the aforementioned 12V AC power supply, thus enabling you to manually disconnect the unit from its electrical supply at its base, in the event the switch fails, the transformer is difficult to get to or its been inaccessibly located.

At this point you've spent an additional $20.00 on the parts you'll need just to power up this fan, but unfortunately you're not done.Not by a long shot.Not yet.

Did I mention the fact that after you've purchase the aforesaid items, you'll need to have them professionally installed by a licensed electrician?That's only if you wish your household insurance to apply in the event of a fan disaster, in case it goes haywire and catches fire.Unfortunately this is just another example of an unexpected, unanticipated expense that nowhere in the fan's description you've been informed about or led to believe you'll have to pay for.

Don't want to pay for a licensed electrician?Then you'll need to purchase a soldering iron, solder, flux, electrical tape, glue, drill and drill bit, (for the hole you'll need to drill into the plastic base of the fan to accommodate the adapter socket, that is if you don't want the fan resting unsteadily on its electrical wires) and it goes without saying that you'll have to have the knowhow as to how to use them, should you unwisely decide to invalidate your home owner's policy and do the work yourself.

Either way, on top of the previously mentioned expenses, you're going to have to pay an additional $15 to $45 if you want to get this fan up and running.So now we're talking well in excess of $100.00 for something you can otherwise purchase, ready-to-go, for a fraction of that cost.

If you still believe purchasing this fan is a good idea, then consider this fact: You'll not know how it will run or even if it will switch on until after you've spent a potful of money on it.Also, after making all those modifications just in order to power it up, if the fan doesn't run or function properly, you won't be able to return it.You won't get your money back.And what are you going to do with everything else you've purchased?

Bottom line?No matter how you look at it this fan is the epitome of a lose-lose or can't win proposition.

In the interest of public safety I've decided to undertake to run tests on this so-called, Personal Fan.Inasmuch I won't have the satisfaction of returning it, let alone will I be able to get my money back for it.

At some point I'll update this review in order to provide you with a more thorough report, that is if this Do It Yourself Kit is still being sold through Amazon, which hopefully it won't be, at least not for much longer.

This fan looks marvelous.But I was disappointed to find that it wobbled quite badly initially.Had to spend about an hour with the included balancing kit to reduce the wobble to an acceptable level -- I ended up with weights on two different fan blades, and still there is a slight wobble.In contrast, I installed another fan by a different manufacturer the same day, and even though it came with a balancing kit too, I didn't have to use it -- that fan was completely wobble free as supplied from the factory.Also was disappointed with the very limited light output from the two light bulbs.I knew that the unit had only two light bulbs, but hadn't realized when purchasing that the light sockets had candelabra bases, severely limiting the bulb options.I'd been planning to put two 23W compact fluorescent bulbs in there, to get about 200W equivalent output, but the highest wattage CFL I've been able to find in a candelabra base is 13W.(Sylvania spiral) Apparently, Hunter is guilty (along with the rest of the fan industry) of making a shameless end-run around some energy efficiency legislation.The law says that if they build the fan with standard-base sockets, then they are required to ship compact fluorescent bulbs with the fan.That of course would add to their costs, so instead they decided to change all their fans to the candelabra base, which exempts them from the requirement to ship CFL's.So the unintended consequence of the legislation has been the production of all these crippled fans that can't even accept the energy efficient bulbs the government wanted us to use.Shame on the legislators for not having the foresight to anticipate the manufacturer's response, but shame on Hunter for being a part of this stupidity!!!One final gripe, that probably doesn't apply to too many people, but the supplied 3" mounting screws weren't long enough to reach the holes in the mounting box in my ceiling.the mounting box was installed flush with the ceiling joist, recessed about 1/2" from the surface of the drywall.That made the supplied screws about 1/2" too short, so I had to make a special trip to Lowes to find some 4" screws to finish the job.For a fraction of a cent, Hunter could have made the included screws 1/2" longer to give the installer a bit of leeway if the mounting box isn't flush with the ceiling.

Too few and small blades, high speed fan.

Very loud once mounted on house frame (vibrates too much and transmits vibrations to the house framing.)Documentation probably does not point out proper mounting methods to reduce noise(or is it we hired an incompetent electrician?The guy mounted it directly on the house framing, without consideration of throughput versus vent size, without rubber pads we had to request ourselves, without any side framing to prevent air leak & re-circulation!Any mounting advice we found easily on the internet he simply ignored!)

This fan has no speed control (nor will it accept an add-on rheostat for this; the electrician stated it would burn the electric motor out!)This means the fan always operates at full speed, full noise level, regardless of environmental conditions.

The thermostat is industrial looking; as a result it can't be installed in convenient, reachable places.Our "smart" electrician installed it in the attic, for ever beyond reach once the bedroom ceiling finished...We had to make an access trap afterwards.In summer in Boston Metrowest, preset trigger temperature 90K roughly gets the fan running all day from 10:30AM to 2:00AM, preventing quiet sleep in the master bedroom until late at night!

Keep away from this non-sense.Get a fan with speed control in addition to thermostat.Get 5 blades instead of 3 (and larger blades if allowed by your space requirements) to allow operation at lower speeds.Throw in an override switch (not comprised in the already high price of that fan.)

Needed a new fan for our small breakfast room for two reasons; the original white fan had an annoying hum and it was time for a visual upgrade seeing as how the french doors looking out on the sun room are walnut and a lot of trim is also.

Looked at several fans and this one seemed to offer the look and size we wanted at the best price. Some people are a little wary of buying refurbished but I have had very favorable experiences buying refurbished merchandise over the years. In many cases i have actually had what appeared brand new merchandise at a good price.

This was the case here. When the fan arrived all accessories and parts were in original factory packing and the appearance was excellent with no visible signs of use or tampering. The fan was actually better looking in person than the picture shows. The bronze look is very attractive and "rich" looking and the distressed walnut blades are some of the best I have seen on a fan. One note they are the same color on both sides unlike many blades which are different colors on each side. So make sure the walnut fits your color scheme.

Installation was a little tricky and I will give you a few hints that should save you some time. I used the ceiling mount which has four rubber bumpers to isolate vibration and cut down on noise. I was able to use the two existing machine screws from the current fan to mount the bracket to the junction box after I had taken down the current fan. I also noted how the wiring was done and simply duplicated the set up.

After the bracket was installed the mounting ring was fairly simple if you note there are three holes and one has two grooves or tabs on either side. These grooves (holes) are meant to have the tabs on the bracket slid into them after which you simply pivot the unit up and screw in three screws after you have wire nutted the wiring connections in. I cut some of the wires shorter to make winding them back into the fan case easier.

After tightening you install the fan blades next. It is very important to remove the mounting screws for the fan blade mounts then attach the blades and re-attach using the two screws each back to the fan. This is important as you cannot attach the blades if you mount the brackets to the fan first, and the instructions do not make this point very clear.

The next hard part is getting the long or fan control chain pull mounted. It goes through two holes one of which is in the holder that holds the globe on and the other is on the side of the light kit. I taped the chain pull to the inside of the globe to hold the chain in place until after the globe was attached to the light stalk. Also be careful you install with Hunter right side up.

Overall an attractive fan at an excellent price for the quality and appearance. The reason for the four stars is the air flow or feet per minute is somewhat lower than then other fans of the same size. Apparently the blade design while looking good is not wide enough to give the same air flow. It is not a deal killer in a room the size (about 9x11) we are using in but with a much larger room you would probably want a higher air flow. But it is quiet and good looking and over all am satisfied with purchase and the company providing the fan.

Good quality product.The only reason not 5 stars is a less than expected amount of air pushed out.I have a cheapo plastic fan from the local drug store that pushes a lot more air out when sent on 'high' than this one does ... but it is nice and quiet, does the job, and seems well made (for a light-weight plastic fan ... actually the front spinning grill does seem rather flimsy, but it works and does the job quietly)

Also, it did not need to be assembled ... except for the little pop-in plastic stand it leans on to keep from falling over.

Did a bit of searching for a clip on fan whose jaw would open wide enough to mount on my headboard.Not many listed the max thickness that the jaw would open ...even this 1 had 2 conflicting measurements:1 smaller figure in the initial desciption and a larger(correct) figure when you opened the technical drawing of the product. Before I ordered the fan, I called Lasko Tech Support to find out the right 1.(this figure was very important....not opening wide enough would make it unusable)
It does open wide enough and works fine!

I bought this fan for my office which is small and very stuffy and intolerable in the summer despite ac.It was quite inexpensive and I have been surprisingly, extremely pleased with its operation.It is the quietest fan I have ever heard and the head tilts back so papers are not disturbed and the warm air is blown out the door by the quiet oscillation mechanism. You could sleep quite easily with this model. There are three speeds, the lowest is really all you need. It moves a lot of air and cools quite efficiently, nothing like other inexpensive models. It is mostly plastic, but feels quite sturdy. SO QUIET!

I've had this pad for 3 years, and it's still running faithfully, despite my keeping the fans running continuously for months at a time.Frankly, I'm surprised that it has been this durable, since the fan and power cord (with integrated on/off switch) seem a bit flimsy.The pad keeps my ThinkPad and Compaq laptops pretty cool normally.At times, however, the Thinkpad would climb over 60 degrees Celsius under high load in Vista (that's the internal temperature - externally, the laptop would feel hot to the touch).I've since reverted to XP, and the laptop now feels cool to moderately warm under load with this chill pad underneath.Would recommend if you can get it for cheap and if your laptop only needs mild to moderate cooling.Otherwise, go with another pad like the X-pad slim, which has surprisingly good cooling power and which you know will be durable because it has no moving parts :)

I have installed these on the last two houses I have owned.Having just moved into a new home, I will be installing as many of these as I can get to replace the exhaust vents (wall caps)on my outside walls.I have louver wall caps now and you can hear the wind whistling through the vent pipes inside the house when the exhaust fans aren't on.There ought to be a building energy code outlawing vent wall caps that leak air so easily. But the Super-Efficient Dryer Vent solves this problem of air infiltration, as well as that of rodent entry.You need this vent style in windy areas, and particularly if you have those dryer vents that have been installed at ground level. 36 in. Heavy Duty High Volume 2 Speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

This is my same review as the 30" version of this fan, they are both identical except for the size of course.

One star off for the cheap louvers, however there are upgraded aluminum extruded avaliable for a few dollars more. Now this is not a whisper quiet fan, it is however much quieter then the unit The Home Depot sells. You will know this fan is running so avoid placement near family/living/bedrooms. This unit comes with a high and low switch in decora style and have found it to be of good quality. Other then a set or two of louvers that got damaged during shipping I've had zero problems with all the units I have installed, and knock on wood have not had to replace a single motor. I find the motor supplied with this fan should last 10-15 years depending on how much you run the fan. I would highly avoid DIYers attempting an installation unless you have a good concept of framing and electrical as you will need to remove a joist to install this fan, the only exception would be if you got a set of truss style louvers and had an additional attic access hole large enough to fit this fan. The packaging the louvers come with have a template to trace onto the ceiling so you know where to cut, my advice when cutting out the template is to cheat inward on the line about 1/8th of an inch so you don't accidentally cut the hole too big. IMO the louver template is just sightly too big. I also recommended a spring round 12 hr timer which can be ganged together with the high/low switch if you know what you are doing. Overall a fantastic product, I'll continue to buy this fan for years to come. For the money it can't be beat.

I installed new ceiling fans and lights in our bedrooms, and to make everything Title 24 compliant (I'm in California) wired the lights to occupancy sensors. In the master bedroom I had to move the occupancy sensor to another wall so the sensor could actually "see" the interior of the room. I placed this switch (the VZ0SR-1LZ) into the original junction box by the door and wired it as a remote switch for the occupancy sensor. The setup works well.

Construction seems to be reasonably solid. It should last a while if not abused. The switch looks like any Decora switch, but has a green LED underneath, which makes it a little easier to find in the dark. However, from some vantage points the LED is obscured by the switch part that sticks out.

Some things to be aware of: while this looks like a regular switch, it's not. This is a pushbutton. You push the bottom (the part that sticks out) to toggle the circuit on and off. This isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned, but if you have kids or careless household members that like to whack regular Decora switches when turning them on or off, they could break this because they don't realize it's not a regular switch.

Also, remember that this is a *remote*, and will not operate as a switch by itself. In order to use this you need to have a compatible switch wired to it.

I'm on my 3rd season with this unit.

1. Its way more powerful than my GE portable. Keeps the LR cool when the GE would not.

2. This unit, though powerful, is very poorly made.

Example:
All four wheels broke off the first season (my season is June-Aug)
The unit emits a "burnt tire" smell. finally stopped smelling in the 3rd season. Friends are no longer asking, "what's that smell?"
The digital lights went out at the start of the 2nd season, so no warranty to fix.
The directional blades fell off the machineduring the second season. Can not be repaired.
The exhaust hose lasted only one season, then fell apart, even though properly stored ($29 + s/h for replacement)

To all those who see nothing but good ratings at the Compact Appl site: They refuse to post any of the real negative stuff. They fix the comment section to reflect only good reviews of 4 stars and more. Not too ethical, no?

I bought this Bulbs from pure instinct, my 2 52Oz Lava Lamp' Bulbs died and I needed a replacement, and from the instructions that came with the Lava Lamps, you are not supposed to use different spec bulbs (40W / 120V) or you could damage the Lava Lamp.. So I spent a few days looking for the replacement bulbs with no luck, I found these in Amazon and they looked pretty much like the bulbs that got damaged so I went ahead and order this 2 Bulb Pack (Perfect for me since I had 2 Dead Lava Lamps) and when I received them I compared the bulbs.. They looked almost the same, so I went ahead and install them. It's not 100% Perfect Fit, more like 98% Fit but they have worked great and my Lava Lamps are alive again :D

So I went and tagged this bulbs with the word Lava Lamp, so the next person can find these to replace their damaged Lava Lamp bulbs ;)

I didn't buy the soleus mac12K at amazon but rather from a retail outlet here in southern CA.After being disappointed with an earlier purchase that I made online, I decided to go into a brick and mortar store and ask the relevent questions.

I was told by the salesman that the reason that the previous air conditioner doesn't work was becuase of the single hose exhuast.The soleus, with it's dual hose design and 12000 btu of cooling power would make my 170 sq ft room freeze.That turned out to be an outright lie.

I started out by testing the air conditioner in the living room with a sliding door.The unit worked well for the first few minutes, cooling the room from about 90 to 87 degrees.Then the compressor would stop running and the cooling mode acted like fan mode and started heating the room back to over 90 degrees.I would be able to get the compressor to work again by unplugging the ac plug and then starting the ac again.The same problem repeated.

Then I moved the air conditioner into the kitchen.It was about 95 degrees to begin with and it only got to 92 and did not drop even after an hour. There were no problems here with the compressor turning off for no reason.

Then I moved the air condtioner into the bedroom.It was able to cool the room down only a few degrees.Besides being loud, it also takes up a lot of current, 12A to be exact and 1350W of power.This would repeatedly trip up the circuit breaker if other appliances such as iron or computers were to be used that were on the same circuit.

The air conditioner appeared to work better when the outside temperature was below 80 degrees.But even then, it does not cool the room below 72.But with the outside temperature in the mid to upper 90s, the room would be in the mid to upper 80s.About the only thing that worked as advertised was that there was no bucket to empty.

I ended up returning the unit after a week with a 25% restocking fee.I was offered an exchange but didnt' even bother.

bought this on amazon.The price was about the same as buying it locally.Oh wait, no, it was less than buying it locally, EVEN with shipping.The box came completely destroyed, so destroyed I was momentarily upset with my wife for signing for it.However, the product had not a scratch on it.Assembly was minimal and simple.My only concern is for how long it will last.To that point, I'm thinking the motor or belt will be the first to go and those are both relatively simple items to replace.Great price on a belt driven fan.

I spent a number of hours researching energy star fans.After careful analysis I found that this fan with its internal A/C to DC voltage conversion would provide the best cost savings.I had some hesitation about buying a Monte Carlo fan because relative to other fan companies (Hunter, etc.) they were a rather new company.I spoke with a customer service rep at Monte Carlo who quickly answered my questions and after considering their warranties decided to give it a shot.As always the purchase from Amazon was easy and the fan arrived quickly. The installation was similar to other fans that I have installed which has its challanges(mechanical hanging it from the ceiling, electrical connection, etc.)There was no pre-kitting to speed up the install.However, I was impressed that Monte Carlo gives you plenty of spare parts (rubber insulators for the blades - 1 extra, screws - at least 2 extra) just in case you loose a few during the task.Once the fan was installed and turned on I could tell that I made a good purchase in terms of performance.The unit is silent and definitely moves some air.Overall I am quite please with this unit and since I have three other fans to purchase and install I will be looking to Monte Carlo again for my needs.

I love small fans.I buy a fan at least once or twice a year, because I need a fan to sleep.I have it next to my bed, blowing air on me, year round.

My current and aging fan, I bought at wallmart for $10.It has a nice wind to it, but it is fairly noisy, which I like, but my wife doesn't, because it blocks out too much noise.So, I went to amazon.com and searched for small desk fans which were quiet.I came across this one with safe to touch blades. Hmmm, interesting, so if my kids were to touch them, they wouldn't get hurt.Awesome...not!

Not very quiet. Fan makes a rattling noise when in operation."Immediate area"is right next to fan, with nose touching blades, then the air is cool and crisp.

It is easy to use, but do not buy.

Customer relations were easy to use, put complaint in through amazon.com and they emailed company.Company explained what I needed to do and I recieved a refund.Took roughly 3 weeks for refund to come through, but that was alright, at least it that worked.

And I am still using my old fan.Haven't found a decent replacement...yet.

I installed two of these fans near the peak of a cathedral ceiling in a new "sunroom", to exhaust hot air on summer days.See Customer Images of the roughed-in installation.Each fan is on a timer, so one or both fans can be used.A third fan was installed in a new storage room also used for painting and chemical cleaning.

The only issue - the fan frame's actual height is 9 3/8", while the 2x10's in that storage room ceiling are only 9 1/4", so some shimming was necessary.Other than that, they are pretty easy to install in NEW construction.To install in existing construction would be significantly more difficult, as you would have to get a switched 14/2 NM cable to the fan's junction box AND connect the fan's 6" steel output pipe to a 6" duct that exhausts the air to the outside.

The best thing about these fans is they are not loud.No one makes a silent fan that moves 300 CFM, but the mild sound of whooshing air with this model is not objectionable.In a house we remodeled last year, I installed a Broan model 504 10" Vertical Discharge Fan rated for sound at 6 sones, and it's way too noisy.I should have used one of these 2 sone Panasonic models.

The plastic grille easily attaches after the drywall is finished, and it looks great.

USES: These fans can be used just about anywhere they can stand with stability. For standing on your shop workbench, or floor, they provide feet to snap into place, to keep the fan stable. You need these feet because, when the fan is on medium or high, it will want to fall backwards. I like to use these fans in my windows, without the feet on of course. I just get it in the window the best I can, then close the window on it to hold it there. You want it in the window as stable as you can cause the fan will vibrate.

PERFORMANCE: I am really not that impressed with these ones, I was spoiled with my 22 inchers. These fans are not only smaller, but the construction of them are really flimsy. When operating, they do a lot of rattling, due to this flimsy construction. It really has a weak motor, meaning it takes time for it to start up, and high on it is like low on my 22" box fans.

On a hot summer day, I have to put this thing on high to be of any use. If its on high, it pushes enough to keep the air circulation going, and you won't be sweating. This fan does have one advantage over my 22 inchers though, its much quieter. At night, when it gets much cooler, I can put this fan on low. It acts kind of like air conditioning at night and is almost silent on low!

I don't like these in my workshop, they just don't push enough air to be of any use in commercial applications. They are great space savers though, and because they are so energy efficient, I can leave this fan on all night, to help me sleep, and not worry about a heavy power bill!

CONCLUSION: These fans are not as good as my 22 inchers by far. But they are quieter then the 22" box fans, and they can fit in smaller spaces, if thats an issue for you. I really dont like their flimsy construction though, or the weak motors. I keep thinking the vibration is going to tear itself apart one of these days. lol My recommendation, buy what you need, if you are happy with a 20", get one. But if your serious about power and longevity, you will buy the 22" model.

I grew up with house fans, and this one worked just the way I remember it. Open a few windows, turn the fan on and... a lot of air gets sucked in the open windows. It's great on cool evenings after a hot day. Small children passing too close to the windows are liable to get sucked through when this thing is on. It's not too noisy either. It does make noise, but the belt drive system seems to help make it run quieter. I wouldn't instal it in the middle of the living room, but it's not loud enough to disturb you if you put it in a hallway. I will say that the shutters are a little cheap. But they work the way they are supposed to. They close when the fan is off, to what looks like a mostly air tight seal.

I purchased this fan about a year ago locally, and was very pleased with how well put together it seemed to be.It was very easy to put together, and it moves a lot of air, even on low.It is even relatively quiet on low, which was a feature I was looking for since I use this in my bedroom at night.

My only complaint is a big one.The fan seems to resonate when it's being used, more so on low-speed than any other.As a result, there is a very annoying high-pitched whine of a constantly changing intensity that can be quite irritating.It is quite possible it is only the unit I purchased, and not a flaw through the entire line, but it's still annoying enough that I cannot give it more than three stars.

This fan (if you can call it that) is absolutely, positively worthless.We bought two fans to go on a 20 x 17' porch and barely, just barely feel a slight breeze.We were forced to add a cheap floor fan to stay cool and now after just thee months of operation, one of the lame Casablanca fans broke.Don't waste your money on these fans.We have a large house with 19 fans and these are the least effective.Your best bet is to find an old Hunter fan made before 2001.

I've had this remote control for ~7-8 years and use it on a Hunter Ceiling Fan.The light switch is either a dimmer (if you hold it down it cycles the lights from dim tobright and back again).However, the dim settings get the lower light levels by chopping the power so that there is a flicker of the lights so I don't use the dimmed positions.If you hit the switch quickly it turns the lights on and off.I keep the lights in the brightest position which works well when I need to see and clean up the bedroom.The fan speeds are off, Low, Med and High. They work well.What can I say, 8 years running and no problems....Yay me.Good luck

Component Cooler Single Extra Fan Review

Please realize that this component cooling fan is only about 3"x3" across. Because of it's small size, I do not feel that the heat being exhausted by the fan is being pushed out well enough/powerfully enough.

This fan is so tiny compared to the size of the vent of my A/V receiver (and I assume this will be the case for most receivers), that I did not feel the tiny guy could do the job well if I just placed it anywhere on the vents.So I had to feel for the hottest spot on the vents and then place this product right on top of the worst heat source just so I could feel this tiny fan could do better work that way.

Then there's the "power" issue. The worst heat source happens to be in the back, right corner of my receiver, so I have the fan sitting on top of that area and I directed the exhaust towards the front of the receiver. The problem with that is that the fan does not propel the exhaust away from the heat source powerfully enough, so basically, I feel the hot air being pulled from within the vent is just being pushed to the top of the receiver and maybe 3-5 inches away from the hotspot. Unfortunately, that means the heat is still sitting on top of another portion of the same vent! That's what I mean by tiny and weak.

If the motor was more powerful/fan was faster it would be able to more efficiently exhaust the heat AWAY from the receiver (I mean that IS the point, right?). I would love if the the product was so powrful that you could feel the heat being extracted from the vents and being pushed out somewhere towards the front of the receiver (as opposed to feeling that "aura" of heat collecting in the back of the entertainment center); unfortunately, this lil fan does not have the power to do that.

I've actually bought USB fans (with plastic, flexible "blades"!!) that push air far better than this product (in fact I bought that fan from amazon and left a review for it as well here). If I had anything good to say about this product it would be that it operates very quietly and turns on automatically when the component gets hot. So you can leave it plugged in and never have to worry about turning it on/off as a separate component.

I've had this for a couple of months now and sometimes I wonder if it's helping at all. That's not piece of mind for $60. The plugs are made to be daisy-chained together so I guess you can buy 2 or 3 of these to place over the vents and then MAYBE that'll be enough to cover the venting area sufficiently. Maybe that multiple to $120 or $180 will be piece of mind for someone else but for me... I'm still looking for a better solution because I would NOT buy anymore of these.

Only issue is I cannot find a light kit made for this unusual fan. Otherwise, very happy.

This is by far the strongest little fan I've ever encountered.In fact, it moves more air than most larger fans.I was given this fan by someone who had used it at their place of work in the mid-90s and it's still going strong today.Actually, I have two of them, one for the home office and one for the bedroom.It is loud for its size, but still quieter than a large fan, so sleeping with it turned on is not a problem for me.They really don't build things like this anymore.This fan is make out of really good plastic for the base and a metal blade cover.My complaints are that it's a design style reminiscent of the 80s, mine is old so it's not Energy-Star rated, and it's hard to clean.I've tried taking it apart in the motor area to clean it like you're supposed to and it takes about an hour of fiddling with it to get the back cover to go on just right.And a can of air can't quite get all of the dirt off of the blades.Regardless of that fact, this fan is sticking with me as long as it continues to work.You'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands!

Just bought the fan,and found it to be extremely quiet, even on the highest of the three speed settings.
It oscillates almost 90 degrees.It doesn't move as much air as some of the noisier fans,but I guess that's the tradeoff.
It comes disassembled, in 7 pieces: base, motor, rear guard, rear guard holddown nut, blade, blade holddown nut, and front guard.It goes together in about 90 seconds.
Another review said it came with a clip base and a standard desktop base.Mine only came with the desktop base.
Over all, very pleased with the purchase.

In Line Duct Fan Review

Almost Noiseless and is vibration free.HAD to install this on a rotatable bend in the ductwork that came off a rectanular feeder which attached immediately to an enclosed 6" round.The attachment panel trimmed easily and the motor bracket even had addtitional holes to center the fan for blade clearance.Even on the bend it pumps out prodigous amounts or air at the flush mount floor grill.I now have two of these in parallel on a variable speed control adding much needed boost to an A\V equipment room.At full speed it can be distracting but I run both fans at 3/4s and hardly notice them in an otherwise silent room.With the A\V gear in full operation, even run together the fans are unobtrusive and forgotten.You could wire them into your HVAC system I but then they would only run when the HVAC system comes on and would operate at full speed.
